Chris Eubank Jr opens up about serious health issues — a major blow for his boxing future

Chris Eubank Jr — one of Britain’s most high-profile and polarising boxers — has publicly revealed that he has been grappling with “a lot of health issues” over the past year, casting doubt over when, or even if, he will return to the ring.

In a statement posted on social media, Eubank Jr said:

“I’ve been dealing with a lot of health issues over the last year & yeah it all finally caught up to me last month.”  

He added: “I will not box again until I’m back to 100% and I don’t know when that will be,” signalling that whatever he’s dealing with now is serious enough to pause his career.  

The revelation comes after his lacklustre performance in the recent rematch with Conor Benn, where he was knocked down twice and looked far from his usual self.  

What might have triggered it — and how serious it could be

While Eubank Jr has not disclosed a precise diagnosis, there are several contextual clues that observers believe may have contributed:

His dramatic attempt to make middleweight for the Benn fights this year involved an extreme weight-cut and dehydration — conditions that often stress the body significantly.  

After his April 2025 win over Benn, he spent two nights in hospital — initially described as a precaution — and later revealed he required surgery after a head-butt in the fight that opened a wound above his eye.  

Promoters and insiders have described him during the rematch as “a shell” of his former self, with a significant drop in punch output and overall performance — suggesting the health issues were impacting his ability to fight at full capacity.  

All of which lends credence to the idea that the health problems are more than a temporary setback.

What this means for his career — and the wider sport

Eubank Jr is now refusing to fight until he is “100%” — an indefinite break.  

According to his promoter Ben Shalom, there is hope for a comeback in mid-2026 — but only if Eubank Jr recovers fully.  

For fans of the longstanding rivalry between Eubank Jr and Benn — a saga more than 30 years in the making — this pause casts doubt on the possibility of a trilogy fight anytime soon.
